Mervyn Bowden
Energy Manager, Marks & Spencer plc

Having worked at M&S for almost 25 years, Mervyn has fulfilled a wide range of roles across Stores, Distribution Centres and the London Head Office.

The roles have increasingly had an energy involvement, initially in procurement, until 2002 when Mervyn was appointed Energy Manager for the Group, responsible for managing around 500 buildings and an energy usage of c. 1 tWh of power & natural gas p.a. The scope of the role is very broad and growing and includes both supply and demand management with an increasing focus on sustainability. He currently has a team of 20, supporting the increased profile and demands on the energy function.

More recently Mervyn has been a key architect and driver of Marks & Spencer's unique 5-year, 100 point eco-directive, Plan A which is setting industry-leading standards, including in the field of energy management and the implementation and development renewable energy technologies..
 
Adam Bruce
Global Head of Corporate Affairs, Mainstream Renewable Power

Adam joined the international energy company, Mainstream Renewable Power, in November 2008, after a period with Scottish & Southern Energy as Head of Sustainable Development.

He joined SSE after the acquisition of Airtricity where he was UK Chief Executive, responsible for the teams that developed Europe's largest onshore and offshore wind farms.

Adam was elected Chairman of Renewable UK (formerly the BWEA), the UK's leading renewable energy trade association in June 2007 for a three year term. He is a founding Director of the Friends of the Supergrid.

Prior to joining Airtricity Adam was Director of Public Policy at UK law firm McGrigors, working in Edinburgh, London and Brussels. He is currently a member of Oxford University's MPLS Development Board, a director of the Westminster Forum and a Fellow of the RSA.

Adam read history at Balliol College, Oxford, where he was President of the Union, and law at Edinburgh University. He lives in Edinburgh with his family.

 
Steve Creed
Director of Business Growth, WRAP

A graduate engineer from the University of British Columbia, Canada, Steve Creed came to the UK in 1979. He progressed through a number of engineering and project management roles, and successfully completed an Open University MBA before being appointed as Managing Director of Stanger Science and Environment, an environment consultancy business that was part of Carillion plc. As Director for the Environment at Carillion he contributed to the development of their approach to sustainable development. During this period he also served on Sir Martin Laing's "Sustainable Construction Focus Group".

Steve joined WRAP in February 2002 as Director of Business and Procurement Programmes, with a remit to stimulate growth of the reprocessing sector and procurement of recycled goods and products. He has directed the development and implementation of several of WRAP's Business Support services, eQuip (a scheme providing RVG's on recycling assets) and the Materials Pricing Report. He also directed several procurement initiatives including the setting of targets for recycled content in construction projects that has now been adopted by several public and private organisations. He also directed the development of WRAP's programme to accelerate the growth of the recycling sector and the development of a specific programme for Third Sector enterprises.

As Director of Business Growth, one of his key responsibilities was bringing together several DEFRA funded delivery activities such as Envirowise, NISP and Centre for Re-use and Remanufacture along with WRAP's activities to form a single efficient and effective delivery landscape that both businesses and consumers are able to access easily. After the successful completion of this, he is currently Director of Business Resource Efficiency.

 
Colin Drummond
CEO, Viridor

Colin Drummond is an Executive Director of Pennon Group PLC and Chief Executive of Viridor, one of the UK's leading waste management, recycling and renewable energy companies. Prior to joining Pennon, Colin was Chief Executive of Coats Viyella Yarns Division, an Executive Director of Renold PLC, a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and an official with the Bank of England.

Colin is Chairman of the Government's Living with Environmental Change Business Advisory Board, of the Environmental Sustainability Knowledge Transfer Network and of UKTI's Water and Environmental Sector Advisory Group. He is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in Earth Sciences at Oxford University and was Master of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators for 2007/08.

He has an MA from Oxford and MBA from Harvard where he held a Harkness Fellowship. He recently appeared in Channel 4 Undercover Boss.

 
Alastair Dutton
Programme Manager, The Crown Estate

Alastair Dutton is Programme Manager at The Crown Estate and leads the Round 3 offshore wind team. His career has been dedicated to low carbon and renewable energy, including roles in research, projects, marketing and operations. Following 15 years at BP he joined The Crown Estate in 2008.

Building on the successful and timely signing of the Round 3 agreements, Alastair took the business operational in 2010. A team of over 25 people is now working directly with the 9 zone partners and at national level. Additionally he is responsible for strategic workstreams, enabling actions and supply chain - all with the aim of facilitating a fast growing offshore wind industry that delivers at scale.

 
Tom Fourcade
Investment Director, Bridges Ventures

 With almost 20 years operational experience, most recently as CEO of renewable energy technology business Biomass CHP and cleantech commercialisation advisor EnviroBusiness, the latter of which he grew from inception Tom is an expert in the commercialisation of environmental technologies. He has specific experience in waste recovery and renewable energy where he has been involved in building new businesses, commercialising new technologies and market development. Tom previously ran a recycling industry development programme for WRAP and prior to that held a number of roles to develop packaging recycling at Valpak and with local authorities.

At Bridges Ventures, Tom is Investment Director for the environment sector and is responsible for supporting AeroThermal Group and making new investments.

Tom has a BSc Honours Degree in Applied Physical Sciences from Kingston University.

Peter Jones
Former Biffa Director, Independent

Peter T Jones is involved in freelance delivery of the low carbon waste infrastructure having Chaired a Planning Advisory Group for Advantage West Midlands .He is building on that work facilitating links between funders, technology providers, waste companies, property companies and fossil energy users. He qualified as an Industrial Economist in 1969 , holds an Honorary Degree from the University of Southampton for work associated with Environmental technologies and is a Member or Fellow of CIM , CIWEM, CIWM , CILT. In the Waste sector, since retiring from Biffa in 2008, he is Chairman of Waste2Tricity,non Exec Director for C8S and Strategic Waste Recycling as well as Ecolateral Ltd.

He advises a wide range of blue chips with regard to Distributed energy from Waste and Chairs the WRAP sponsored Gas to Grid Group.
 
Peter Kydd, BSc(Edin) CEng FICE
Director of Strategic Consulting, Parson Brinckerhoff

Peter Kydd is Director of Strategic Consulting for Parsons Brinckerhoff in the UK. He has over 30 years experience in the civil engineering sector. He has worked on renewable power studies and projects throughout his career, most recently leading the consortium of consultants advising the Government on the Severn Tidal Power Feasibility Study. Other tidal power expertise includes the initial studies for the Shoots Barrage, technical advisor for the SETS programme and leading the Duddon Estuary Tidal Power Feasibility Study. Wider renewable energy experience includes the study, design and commissioning of hydropower schemes in the UK and the South Pacific, sludge digestion plants and various policy/research studies.
 
Liam O'Keeffe
MD and Head of Project Finance, Credit Agricole

Liam is responsible for the syndication of project finance transactions in the EMEA region at Crédit Agricole CIB. He has been involved in project finance for over 20 years mainly specialising in the power and infrastructure sectors including renewable energy transactions. Before joining Crédit Agricole CIB, he worked at CIBC and KPMG. Liam has a BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol. He is also a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
 
Lord Redesdale
Chairman of the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association

Lord Redesdale, chairman of the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association, has worked in the environment sector for a number of years. He was the Liberal Democrat front bench spokesmen for Agriculture and Energy between 2000 and 2008. He is the Vice Chair of the All Party Climate Change Group, and has worked on many pieces of legislation involving the environment.

Lord Redesdale was a front bench spokesman on 2008 Climate Change Act and 2008 Energy Act. He has introduced more pieces of private legislation on Energy Conservation and Climate Change than anyone else in parliament.

 
Tim Stone
Chairman and Founder of KPMG's Global Infrastructure practice

Tim is the Chairman and founder of KPMG's Global Infrastructure practice and is seconded part-time as the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change and as the Expert Chair for the Office for Nuclear Development. Tim is also currently the independent advisor to the Finance Minister of one of the Australian states regarding their entire infrastructure program and he is a non-Executive member of the board of the European Investment Bank. His other UK roles include being the Chairman of the Strategic Capital Investment Panel of the Welsh Assembly Government. He was appointed CBE for services to the energy industry in the 2010 Birthday Honours.
 
Mark Whitby
Director, Davies, Maguire & Whitby
Mark Whitby has returned to his roots in design as a director of the engineers Davies Maguire+Whitby but maintains a big company perspective as non executive chairman of EvoEnergy, a company he has helped become the UK's leading photovoltaic provider. He is a founder member of the sustainability think tank 'The Edge' and as President of the Institution of Civil Engineers was a champion for renewable energy when most considered it a pipe dream.
 
Philip Wolfe
Ownergy, Former DG of Renewable Energy Association

Philip Wolfe is one of the pioneers of the UK renewable energy industry. He recently founded Ownergy Plc, to provide renewable electricity and heating systems to businesses and consumers, supported by the government's new Renewable Energy Tariffs. He is also a Director of the Renewable Energy Association and the Aldersgate Group.

He has installed renewable energy in his home for all of its heating and part of its electricity.

A Cambridge first-class engineering graduate, Philip has been involved in the sector since the 1970's when he became the first Chief Executive of what is now BP Solar. He later established his own photovoltaics company Intersolar Group, which from 1993 to 2002 was the sole UK manufacturer of photovoltaic cells. He has served on the Boards of European and British industry bodies, and advised the European Commission and the British Government.
